The 2024 Daylight Africa Health Fair, held on the 5th and 9th of September, 2024, in Senegal and The Gambia, respectively wrapped up with resounding success, bringing much-needed healthcare services and education to hundreds of participants. The event, organized by Daylight Africa in collaboration with Glory of Hope Foundation aimed to promote wellness, disease prevention, and health awareness among the communities.

Over the course of the two days, the health fair offered a wide array of free services, including blood pressure monitoring and diabetes testing. Licensed professionals as well as the Medical Students from the University of The Gambia were also on hand to provide consultation with members of the community. Specialized consultations on nutrition and health eating were tackled in preventing chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

The fair’s highlight was a lecture on preventive health, where medical experts shared insights on lifestyle changes to improve long-term health outcomes. Dr. Gloria Bent, founder of Glory of Hope Foundation and Bent on Wellness, emphasized the importance of keeping a good diet and exercising. Through these health fairs, Daylight Africa hopes to empower individuals to take control of their health before minor issues escalate into chronic diseases

In addition to health services, pads, baby diapers, books, bags and stationary were distributed among members of the community. Medical equipment was donated to Medical students as well.

Local resident expressed their gratitude stating: “This health fair provided me with services I couldn’t easily access otherwise. The free screenings and expert advice have been eye-opening.”

The fair was a collaborative effort between Daylight Africa, Glory of Hope Foundation, donors and volunteers. Organizers plan to expand the event next year, hoping to offer even more specialized services to the community.

The success of the health fairs underscores the importance of community-driven healthcare initiatives, particularly in underserved areas.
